Feels so good to be back home

The last weekend24th March to 26th was the most memorable one. I had been to my Grand father’s place (Mantralyam) to visit him (Sri Raghavendra Swami) after a long time of 5 months. The only place, I feel were love is in air, ur spirits are always high n u r always recharged to take n accomplish new projects in life.

I strongly recommend my friends to visit Mantralayam atleast once to have the best moments for life time.

There are various temples to visit at mantralyam: main temple bing Raghavendra Swamy temple, Manchalamma temple, venkateswara swami temple is in old mantralyam, Tunga river flowing just behind the temple, panchmuki is one of best and effective god shrine about 15km from mantralyam (Auto drivers charge 20 per person and if u take a bus its 5 Rs).

Away from all the typical job routine and usual life u get a chance to do seva (Service) for both god (Inside the temple premises) and fellow humans (Poor people outside the temple). Every time, I am at Mantralyam I feel so energetic and homely.

Some facts and figures about Indian circket

Finally our players came home yesterday (29/march/2007) after loosing the World cup in the early stage. I was shocked to know the following facts:

1. BCCI is the richest circket board in the world (BCCI = 2* all the cricket boards of the world)

2. Indian Cricket players are the only players involved so much into advertisement

3. The head of BCCI sharad powar does not hold any sports experience or academic qualification

4. Highest number of fans following the team

The list goes on n on n on......but wats the use of all the resources when we don’t have a dedicated team.

AD industry n Circket (World cup 2k7)

I am not sure if this is true but today, I heard couple of my colleagues at Google saying various MNC's (Major example AIRTEL) have invested a huge money in India for advertisement. The total amount lost estimated comes to 20,00,00,000 if India happens to loose the match today...It high time for us to pray for our Team Blue.

Hope history repeats we get the cup back :)

Power of Positive thinking

I had been thinking reading n discussing a lot about the topics like positive thinking, Success, attitude, law of attraction. Its seriously good to read inspirational books but I some how feel all these books convey the same message:

U R THE CREATOR OF YOUR OWN DESTINEY
-Swami Vivekananda

Still, I recommend ppl to read the following books:

The Effective Executive by Peter Drucker
Megaliving by Robin Sharma
Monk who sold his ferrari by Robin Sharma
7 Habits of highly effective ppl by Covey
First things first by Covey
How to become CEO

And Loads n loads of books...I just dont remember them all.

If u guys need any of these books or good management books....Leave a comment with ur e-mail ID, I will send them over (ebooks).

ICFAI Another example of poor customer support and cheating

I think the month of February is dedicated to write reviews on organizations that Sucks :) big time.

One more classic example on our way is ICFAI University, the money making university which cares least about its distance education students. I had recently conducted a survey in my office and mailing lists before posting this article. 29 out of 36 students lost there money because of this so called business school. Here are the reasons that make ICFAI the top ranked fake university:

1. They sell there own old question papers for 100/paper
2. The grading system is not transparent
3. Every time they make u flunk in exams and ask u to pay a huge amount for re-exam
4. Even after completing the exams u never know what was right and what was wrong
5. The phone numbers on website are Crap…everytime u call them with doubt all u hear is hello and a bang sound
6. They say easy EMI for fees and charge you royally for RS. 65000+ (Even top b-schools like Symbiosis charge u 20 k for distance MBA)
7. Out of every 100 students joining ICFAI only 10 get there degree

The list goes on and on and on……….

I don’t want my friends or relatives or my blog readers to loose there money or being cheated. So think ….n^n times befor joining this university

Best Customer Service Vs Worst Customer Service

I had a couple of experinces in recent past with cell phone service providers in India. I had taken a Reliance connection which was never activated for almost 15 days after purchase inspite of giving them all the necessary documents like passport, electricty bill n telephone bill (True copies). Every time you call up Reliance customer care they give some weared explanation to satsify you. Finally the retailer (Pioneer Communication at Kachiguda Hyderabad) helped me out with this issue by replacing my brand new Reliance connection with Airtel connection. The Business World magzine of this week states that Vodofone has acquired Hutch for $16 billion hope Indians can expect a better service from the new mobile services.

It is Awesome to work in World's best place Google!!!!

As usual Google has re-written the standards for the best company to work for on the planet EARTH!!!! Fortune magazine conducted a survey of over 100,000 employees across 450 plus companies to decide the best place to work in this world, no doubt Google was ranked NUMBER 1. Click here to read the article from Fortune Magazine.

What makes Google No 1? The list of the answer goes on and on and on...As I always say Google is the employee centric company it believes employees are the most valuable ones for the company. Experts like Jordan Rohan (Jordan Rohan is a internet analyst. His consistent track record in calling the ups and downs of search companies makes his thoughts and insights well worth attention) say:

Google = Corporate Campus + University Playground.

A company that was started by 2 PhD students with a million dollar is now 150 billion dollar company. The company that believes in the fact that "Don’t be Evil" has 9000 brave soldiers (Dedicated employees) working for it world wide.

Google has out ranked its competitors with a huge difference in many aspects, some of the facts and figures are:

Best company to Work for Google – 1 Yahoo- 44 Microsoft- 50

Dream company for scholars Google- 1 Yahoo n Microsoft I am not sure 

Number of Resumes sent for Jobs: Google 25 EVERY SECOND Yahoo n Microsoft few resumes per minute or day.

Number of new users per month Google- 75 million, Yahoo n Microsoft need not say its much less 

In fact we can say Google does not have any comparison for the speed with which it is progressing for example: Youtube was taken over by paying 1.65 billion dollar's which no company would ever dare to do, tie-up with Nasa.........

I wish Google all the best and would love to see it on Top in every aspect of business and Technology.

Comments are Welcome.

New Year 2007 at Srishilam

It's been a long time since i had been to awesome place :) so thought new year would be the right time to visit trult beautiful place (Srishilam). It’s around 180 KM's from Hyderabad (This includes 60 Kms in forest/ghat). Some of the must see place in and around Srishilam are:

Patala ganga (U need to take a rope way to reach here for boating)

Kadli vana: It is belived that great saint Akka mahadevi did her penance in this place before she had the darshana of Lord Siva.

Shikar was the next place of visit. Its on a hill top around 10 KM's from Srishilam, it is believed that if u are able to see the kalsha (The olden structure on top of shiva temple) you will attain moksha (U will not have any re-birth's)

I felt this was the best way to celebrate New year...We had a great time reached Hyderabad on Jan/1/2007 in the night. It took almost 2 days to come out of that beautiful holiday mood.

In the beautiful land of Nizams

It is a great feeling to be here in Google Inc at Hyderabad. The company, I always wanted to be. It’s been really long time since I have posted anything on my blog. Now there are loads of things, I would love to write. All the new experience about Hyderabad, about new house, new friends, new work, new work environment, new culture, new language, new new…new…n so on.

Hyderabad:now what do I say about this awsome city...It rocks (except the hot weather). some of the facts and figures about this place that, I know are:

It is the 5th largest metropolis in India. It has about 63 lack people living in (Of course increasing every minute). City were Hindus and Muslims have co-existed peacefully from ages. It is the emerging information technology (or IT) and biotechnology hub of India. Hyderabad and Secunderabad are twin cities, separated by the Hussain Sagar (bound by the 'Tank Bund'), a manmade lake made during the time of Ibrahim Qutb Shah in 1562. The Charminar (Urdu: "Four Minars") monument, built in the center of Hyderabad by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591, is a commemoration of the eradication of a plague in the region.

The place were, I stay is a mixture of old city and hi-tech. No wonder, I have started using "mama and ma ke kirkiri 10 times in every sentence".

To summarize this place truly rocks and it’s a privilege to be part of this company and city.

Working with company like Google is a joy in itself….the experience is tough to be explained in words. I feel, I am in an university learning more n more stuff each day rather than working for any company. The team here is Awesome!!!! I am not supposed to write about my company or work so sorry…..that’s against our policy.

Want to be an entrepreneur???

Hey all,

Every 10 out of 12 graduate dreams of being a successful entrepreneur. Unfortunately none reaches the goal...this may have millions of reasons...no money, no idea, no god father...n the list goes on. My question is did every one who owns a company had all these to support them? and the answer is no...It just takes few seconds to realize our true dream n march towards it.

I was doing a backend research on this and fortunately reached this piece of web http://onstartups.com/ which speaks about what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

This is a dedicated community for entrepreneurs. Dharmesh Shah is the guy behind this site and has done wonders in the field of startups....I would call him as meta entrepreneur (An entrepreneur who does through research and has rich experince on startups)

All, I would say is browse through his site, realize your true dreams and potiential and start working towards it.

It's not who you think you are that holds you back but what you think you're not.

Raghu's Day out @ Google

It was around 6:00 am on Tuesday the 19 September, 2006 when my alarm started off with the wakeup tune, the sound had hardly reached my ears, I jumped out of my bed with excitement. (This happend after almost a decade that, I wokeup in first ring of the bell). The first thing that, I did was prayer: "Oh lord lead me, guide me, and bless me, I am going for an interview with a company, I always dremt of. Please help me God".

Yes, I had the interview with the Best company on this earth Google. I finished all my daily routine and rushed to Bangalore airport to catch my flight to Hyderabad. (The flight tickets were booked by Google). Flying with the king of good times (Kingfisher Airlines) was indeed a great experience. The breakfast, the hospitality, the facilities, the captain of the flight, Airhostess….everything was a delight. It was around 11:00 am when, I reached Hyderabad airport. As informed by Sheela (HR lady at Google) the driver was waiting for us with sign board (GOOGLE Raghavendra and Ayaaz Syed), I met him and we were waiting for other candidate to arrive (Syed). Had a formal introduction with each other and started to the Hi-Tech city were the google is located. It was truly a great drive (30 minutes from Airport).

After reaching Google office we were told to go to 7th floor, Google reception. We then entered all our details (Name, place, from, to visit), the security guard then gave us the sticker which we had to stick on our shirt for the whole day. I was very excited to have the Google sticker on my shirt I was now part of the worlds best company. We waited in reception for the HR lady she greeted us and made us feel comfortable. The reception is very unique at Google. U get to see the real-time queries on Google search and Google Earth, i.e When some one on the globe enters a string in google search, it is displayed on the query board, same is the case with Google Earth. Aisha then told us that we have three rounds to go today, I was almost nervous to hear that 3 more rounds is a huge thing (FYI, I had already completed 4 rounds on telephone).

Then the real action was about to begin: The interview ( I am very sorry but I am not supposed to blog anything about the interview rounds and stuff). I could not perform very well in 1st round coz of nervousness, next 2 rounds were superb. After the interview, I prepared sandwich and noodles for my self.

I would like to give a snapshot of the Break Out (Googlers call canteen as breakout place) at Google and other unique things which are only avalible in Google in this Universe:

  1. The Brains (Talents known as employees of Google)
  2. Unlimited Choclates every where in the office
  3. The verity of soft drinks (from frooti, appy to Reb bull)
  4. The free food and chats served hot and fresh
  5. Loads of Toys and colorfull ballons....very colorful
  6. The Body massager

This will be a never ending list......

Finally we were dropped to Airport in the Google Cab. We returned back to Bangalore with the great hope to join Google near future...........Many rounds were again conducted on phone after coming back and documents are now sent to USA for final verification....it is October 3, 2006 (3:00 pm), I am still holding my fingures crossed waiting for a positive result.....

I have learnt lots of good things and lessons about the corporate culture from Gogle....

Thanks to google for giving me the opportunity to attend the interview and thanks for the wonderful trip being sponsered....

Surviving your PhD

Hi all,

It had been very long time since I have blogged something interesting…. I was very busy with my PhD work and trying to write my first paper to be published….I was Pissed, frustrated, got pain ………while trying to write something new or something that never existed in software design…….Then, I came across an interesting article about Surviving the PhD…….I feel its very tough to invent something new and useful for people like me who have huge experience in (Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+v)…hahaha lets see how it goes…anyways here are few tips if you are planning to do a research……

Before you begin
  1. Compile a list of things you enjoy and what makes you feel relaxed.
  2. Collect cute quotes for the start of your chapters.
  3. Say goodbye to friends and loved ones.

During the write-up

  • Make a plan. It takes lots of time and comes in handy for making you feel depressed about your lack of progress. I managed to finish exactly 6 months after the finish day on my plan.
  • Ensure that your living and working environment are as clean as you normally have them. Otherwise they will be a source of endless frustration.
  • Do not do revisions online. Print the relevant pages out, mark up the correctionsin your favourite pen colour, and then incorporate the changes. This is moreefficient because you can ignore the text which you have not marked up. Sorry that this one isn't funny.
  • Rest, exercise, get massages, and generally take care of yourself.
  • You may feel the urge to add just one more chapter. Don't. 60 page chapters are not acceptable either.
  • Deal with RSI pain immediately. It is emotionally destructive and will onlyget worse. I used a combination of acupuncture, osteopathy, and Belgian beer.
  • Spend time with friends who are either sympathetic or are good distractions, preferably the latter.
  • Do not begin relationships. You are not human.
  • Every now and again take time to relax and enjoy yourself. Consult the list you created in Step 1. Belgian beers are useful.
  • Going to conferences is a bad idea. They invariably inspire new ideas, something you don't need right now.
  • You are more effective when your brain is switched off.
  • Use stress to get through the boring bits.Save them for last.
  • Do not look out the window. The weather will invariably be beautiful and lots of Dutch girls will be riding by on their bicycles. This is a depressing sight for someone trapped behind a computer.
  • Now is not the time to learn to juggle 5 balls.
  • Avoid where possible taking a job until you are really really close to finishing (or actually finished).
  • If you do happen to start a job, find as many full days as you can to work onthe thesis, without running yourself into the ground.
  • Do not write web pages like this until you have actually submitted.
  • At some point you have to throw in the towel and say, "That's enough." Ensure that you have finished before reaching this point.

And when you do finish:

  1. Congratulate yourself. You deserve it. Belgian beers help here also.
  2. Apologise to everybody you know while they congratulate you. Ensure that they pay for the beer.
  3. Make them call you Doctor for practice.
  4. Gloat.Say that it only took you 2 years to complete and that the write-up took only 6 weeks.

Any other points are always welcome provided you are a Doctor (PhD or a Research Worker)

Live life Royally......

It has been a long time since I posted something interesting on my blog. I then came across an e-mail sent to me by my buddy (Ashwin Kulkarni @ sony _Biology champ.dhayan.com). This is definitely the most beautiful list, I have ever seen about life. I know everyone of you will love it…….so let’s start with the list:

Have a firm handshake.

Look people in the eye.

Sing in the shower.

Own a great stereo system.

If in a fight, hit first and hit hard.

Keep secrets.

Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.

Always accept an outstretched hand.

Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.

Whistle.

Avoid sarcastic remarks.

Choose your life's mate carefully. From this one decision will come 90per cent of all your happiness or misery.

Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.

Lend only those books you never care to see again.

Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have.

When playing games with children, let them win.

Give people a second chance, but not a third.

Be romantic.

Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.

Loosen up.

Relax.

Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is asimportant as it first seems.

Don't allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It's there for your convenience, not the caller's.

Be a good loser.

Be a good winner.

Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.

When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go.

Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born.

Keep it simple.

Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.

Don't burn bridges. You'll be surprised how many times you have tocross the same river.

Live your life so that your epitaph could read, No Regrets

Be bold and courageous. When you look back on life, you'll regret thethings you didn't do more than the one's you did.

Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.

Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you.

Take charge of your attitude. Don't let someone else choose it for you.

Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need onlystay a few minutes.

Begin each day with some of your favorite music.

Once in a while, take the scenic route.

Send a lot of Valentine cards. Sign them, 'Someone who thinks you'reterrific.'

Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.

Keep a note pad and pencil on your bed-side table. Million-dollar ideassometimes strike at 3 a.m.

Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of howtrivial their job.

Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a reason later.

Make someone's day by paying the toll for the person in the car behindyou.

Become someone's hero.

Marry only for love.

Count your blessings.

Compliment the meal when you're a guest in someone's home.

Wave at the children on a school bus.

Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on yourability to deal with people.

Don't expect life to be fair.

Looking forward for your comments.......

Water Therapy one natural medicine for all the disorders

This is a real life incidence that happened with me, trust me this is an amazing cure for almost every disorder you can name. Here is wat happened, My wife had Kidney stones problem ( a minor issue) which the doctors said can be cured by the intake of lots and lots of water.. I was wondering how water can cure any disease. At the same time (June 13th, 2006), I got an e-mail from one of my friend which had 100's of explanations how water can make wonders in your life try this therapy its truly amazing. I have personally tried this for past 15 days and itÂ’s truly amazing. Here are the details of Water Therapy or "Usha Paana Chikitsa" (Traditional name of water therapy):

List of Diseases That Can Be Cured By Water Therapy

Therapy Procedure

* Early morning, after you get up from bed, drink 1.5 liters of water i.e., 5 to 6 glasses. Let us all know that ancient Indians termed this therapy as "Usha Paana Chikitsa" . You can ofcourse brush your teeth before you drink.

* Here it is very essential to note that nothing else, neither
drinks nor solid food of any sort should be taken 1 hour before and after drinking
.

* It is also to be strictly observed that no alcoholic drinks should be taken the previous night.

* If required, boiled and filtered water may be used for this purpose.

* It is difficult to drink 1.5 liters of water at one time, but you will get used to it gradually.

* Initially, while practicing you may drink four glasses first and to balance two glasses after a gap of two minutes.

* You may find the necessity to urinate 2 to 3 times within an hour, but it will become normal after quite some time.

By Research

The following diseases are observed to be cured with this therapy within the indicated days as below:
* Constipation - 1 day
* Acidity - 2 days
* Diabetes - 7 days
* Cancer - 4 weeks
* Pulmonary TB - 3 months
* BP & Hypertension - 4 weeks

Note: It is advised that persons suffering from Arthritis or Rheumatism should practice this therapy thrice a day

How Does Pure Water Act?

* Consuming ordinary drinking water by the right method purifies
human body. It renders the colon more effective by forming new fresh blood, known in medical terms as " Haematopaises". That the mucous folds of the colon and intestines are activated by this method is an undisputed fact, just as the theory that the mucous fold produces new fresh blood.

* If the colon is c leansed then the nutrients of the food taken
several times a day will be absorbed and by the action of the mucous folds they are turned into fresh blood. The blood is all-important in curing ailments and restoring health and for this water should be consumed in a regular pattern.

So Friends after reading this blog dont ignore this message and spread this all your loved ones (No no, I will not say that you will get promotion or money if you spread this message to 10 people in 5 days).

Truly Yours,
Raghavendra

Since GOD cannot be everywhere he created Mother...

Its been a long long time, I could not post ariocles on Blog, coz of obvious reason my wedding. It was the happiest moment of my life to have my beloved in my life..... things are great after marriage. Will post my wedding snaps once, I receive them.

Since God cannot be everywhere he created Mother..

I saw this on a poster when, I was a 12 year old boy and it left a great impact on me. Its literally impossible to write article about Mother, because its not possible for a human to document on God (Mother). The living example for unconditional love on this earth is mother, the lady who loves you before you were born and till….. there is no end to say till she just loves you forever.

I would like to share a small story with you all to illustrate the importance of word mother (I know it’s impossible to describe the word Mother, but its my 2 cents effort)

“There was a lady by name Teresa who lived in my country (INDIA) (She is still alive in all of our hearts) her only aim in life was to serve mankind. She always loved to help poor, diseased, helpless,…. the list goes on. No matter what she was always there for the upliftment of mankind. Since she was a nun she was Sister Teresa. World wanted to give her some award to honor her work for the world… after a long research they found only work that will describe her unconditional love and kindness was MOTHER and hence named her as MOTHER TERESA”

This is the importance of word amma (Mother), the sweetest word in any language is MOTHER.

She brings you to earth, takes all the pain as happiness, teaches you to talk, walk see, feel think, and pray do everything that makes you a human. She always struggles to make you perfect in all walks of life. She becomes your friend when you are a youth. She ensures that you never get into a bad company of friends, dedicates most of her time praying for you no matter what you do in return for her. It is a soul that blesses and guards you constantly.

Abraham Lincoln once said "All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother."

She is the great women who smiles happily when you are with a lady who entered into your life with the title wife. Though you do not spend much time with her she always spend her time remembering about the yesterdays the days you babbled something when you where a kid. she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness.

No one on this earth would smile to see there love shared if there is someone who smiles happily seeing her love been shared then that divine soul is none other that MOTHER.

The reason for me to put this article on blog is to convey that mother is the holiest thing alive on thi earth. Mother is far more worth than a ton of priest.

Thanks Giving!!

This is the most common thing but still ignored by most of us "Thanks Giving". The literal meaning of Thanks is to express our gratitude. How many of us thank or express gratitude to every small things that we encounter in our day to day busy life? Do we thank Auto wala or taxi wala after we get down from auto? Do we thank the hotel servers or cook when we face them? Most of the times the answer is "No".

The Thanksgiving holiday celebrated each November in the United States is known worldwide as an American custom, but its roots extend far back into human history. According to research conducted by The Center for World Thanksgiving at Thanks-Giving Square, the first Americans observed rituals and ceremonies to express gratitude to a higher power for life itself. A Seneca Indian ritual, for example, states, "Our Creator ... Shall continue to dwell above the sky, and this is where those on the earth will end their thanksgiving." Another quotation attributed to American Indians before Columbus is, "The plant has its nourishment from the earth and its limbs go up this way, in praise of its Maker ... like the limbs of a tree."

It is very important that we thank God for everything he has given us, its also equally important to thank every human we encounter in our day to day activity for all they do.

Isn't it nice when someone sends you a short note thanking you for the lovely dinner you shared, or the weekend you spent together? Doesn't it make you feel good - even great?
Sure it does.

If, I am asked to pen down the advantages of thanking, I would say it is tough to do that but some of the important advantages are:
  1. You make the person feel very good and happy
  2. You acknowledge the work in a very positive manner (you motivate them).
  3. Thank You notes are thought of as gracious and well mannered
  4. Thank You notes build trust
  5. Thank You notes demonstrate your commitment to service. (In Business or work)
  6. Thank You notes are the perfect way of introducing new products and services to your customers (and sleepy distributors). In other words, Thank You notes build relationships - the cornerstone of your business.

Every time someone buys something from you, send them a Thank You note. Every time someone gives you a referral, send them a Thank You note. Every time a new person signs up in your organization, send them a Thank You note. Every time some one does a seemingly insignificant task for you send a thank you note (The task may be server serving a cup of tea in a hotel e.t.c)

Here's the sweet story, I got from a reputed business magazine:

Tracey, a personal fitness trainer and friend of mine, sold a box of chewable vitamins from her Networking company to one of her clients. She sent a Thank You note as a follow up and included three business cards for possible referrals.

About a week later, during a baby shower at Tracey's client's house, one of the other moms there picked up the box of vitamins and asked about it. This prompted a conversation and the client passed out the rest of Tracey' s business cards.

Two moms bought vitamins, not only for their kids but for themselves as well.
Tracey sent out more Thank You notes to them. One of her new customers referred her sister, who bought a box, too. And on and on...

At the end of just one month, Tracey had eight new customers. One of them was seriously looking at joining her business!

Tracey didn't know these people from Eve.

The power of a Thank You note is awesome. It's one of your ultimate secret weapons. And isn't it great to live life and work with a sense of appreciation, anyway? As a side perk, you may even find that writing Thank You notes makes you feel great.

Don't prejudge this process, just do it. Please send me feedback on how the Thank You note process is working for you.

Truly yours,

Raghavendra Hunasgi (Raghav)
